The season so far has not been a very successful one for me to date, with a mixture of bad draws and poor tactics on my behalf the resulting in low weights. But that’s fishing, you learn by your mistakes and you prepare for next time (and I don’t mean the night before the match). As Kenny will tell you, I’m very competitive and self critical and regularly bend his ear on the way home about my mistakes, I certainly don’t start blaming the venue, it’s the same for everyone and its all about maximising your swim on the day.
As ever Ronnie is fishing his rocks off again this season, consistency is the key and I’m sure he does his homework on each venue leading up to the match and leaves nothing to chance. I must admit, I much prefer to draw next to Ronnie, I do quite regular on our Saturday matches, his competitiveness and sportsmanship help keep me focused and I know if I can give him a run for his money I’ve had a good days fishing.
Kev Polhill is also having a great season he seems to have robbed my mojo and will give Ronnie a good battle this year, as for Paddy he’s like a different angler and must be up for the best improved trophy this time round, they’re a great pair of lads, always up for a bit of banter and always enjoy the day. Well Kev was alright until he stuffed me in the knockout. Kev you didn’t have to smile for the whole weigh in mate!
Cudmores pegging ended up a bit of a fiasco, but all I can say is, don’t expect an apology, you won’t get one, because if you do something often enough it’s inevitable that you will make a mistake at some point. To the regular moaning minority who conveniently turn up just before the draw expecting everything to be organised for them and then to just stroll to their peg, to be honest myself, Kenny, Col and Ronnie as you are all aware do the majority of the running around are sick of the griping, moaning, bitching, whatever you want to call it. Cudmores match was no exception, I sat across from my old pal Dougie on Pool 6 and we had to endure at least 5hrs of someone moaning about the size of the fish, the venue and how he wasn't going to fish there again, he obviously wasn’t enjoying it and made sure nobody else would either. As for the minority who are never happy with the pegging, well it’s about time you got off your arse and pegged it yourself, instead of the empty offers or turning up last minute. The same applies to the venue, Kenny frequently asks for suggestions for future matches that can cater for at least 24 members within reasonable travelling distance, so come on give him some credit for his efforts and instead of critisising be constructive.
The club has been very successful over the years and this will only continue if the members get more involved and more importantly enjoy the days out, if this is not possible maybe it’s time you gave us all a break and joined another club.
Heronbrook will soon be upon us, after another great night last year I’m sure you are all looking forward to it, hence the slightly earlier draw time this year to start the ale flowing before Kenny’s siesta. I’m sure Col will have something in store for us all and if anyone has concerns about their room being adjoined to Taylors or Dougies, earplugs are available free of charge through the club to dampen the snoring. Anyone dining out I’m sure Ben will get us a table. See ya all there.
