Chairmans Letter Aug 2009

Its been sometime since l have put pen to paper and l make no apologies for making this a long one ,so here goes. First may l thank Steely for running the stop over, for myself l had a great time.
As usual the weather was crap so Col could you order some sunshine for the next one bud.
The first thing l need to discuss is finance, there is no getting away from it, there is more going out than coming in, also due to the fact that we have lost some of our sponsors due to the credit crunch and with bank fees going up, the plain fact is we are in trouble. Now there are a number of ways we can tackle this problem and I have spoken to a number of members to voice my concerns. The short term measure which will give us a little bit of cash will be to increase the pools to £15, the extra £2 will go to the club. If we start this now with four matches to go this gives us £176, not a great amount but it gives us some breathing space. The other option is to do away with the breakfast altogether and let the members buy there own.
But the long term solution if you want to keep things the same including the cash prizes at the end of the series is to increase the annual subscription, so what l would like to do is to keep everything the same as it is now, but to do this there must be an increase of £20 to the subs bringing it up to £50.
If you think about it, if you fish all 9 matches you have your peg fee paid for which is about £7 and breakfast which is about £4,total £11 x that by 9 =£99 per member. let me say this, no other club does what we do!
Each round now costs about £250 - £300 with 24 members paying £50 total £1200 so you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work out we still need our sponsors. Now there is no guarantee that they will come good year in year out! all this will have to be debated at the AGM but remember this, when the money is gone its gone!
Moving to a lighter note, there has been some developments regarding other pharmaceutical companies which have angling clubs. It all started when Ben Richo spotted a match result in one of the angling papers in which a number of pharmaceutical companies took part, in their championship match one of the companies was a Novartis team! all this was held at the Heronbrook fisheries, as usual Ben accused me of running a secret match team but l new nowt about it!
So further investigation was needed, anyway l tracked it down to a guy who worked in astra Zeneca, I had a conversation with him took some details and contact numbers and he will bring our application to the next committee meeting, so lads get yea sticks ready for a grudge match!!!!
The last thing l need to cover are match fishing rules , now its fair to say that, just like you all l like to have a nice day with no stress and have a good time but one of my responsibilities as match steward on the the day is to call time. So let me make this very clear if some one lodges a objection about you for fishing on, l will up hold it and you will be disqualified end of story !!!! if six hours is not enough find another club!
The other old trick is leaving a spare rig in the the margins, it will be no good saying oh! it must of blew in, you will be banned ! The sad fact is l have already had to do this to someone at my local venue and he threatened to punch my face in! but make no mistake l will not shy away from controversy, l would rather pack it all in than fish with cheats! Just one more thing, some people dont like to cause trouble but if see the guy next to you fishing on come and talk to me on the QT sooner or later l will catch them!!!!
                                 Tight lines
